This is the privacy policy for Soundtrails, a service which enables you to follow trails of audio stories via the Soundtrails app (the ‘App’) and Soundtrails website www.soundtrails.com.au (the ‘Website’).
Soundtrails is an initiative of Sound Trails Pty Ltd (referred to here as ‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’, ‘Soundtrails’).
This policy relates to how we collect, use and disclose information about you when you use our App and Website or when you interact with us in other ways such as emailing us. It does not relate to our communications with providers of story content, nor to anyone accessing Soundtrails through external sites or broadcasters.

Keep up to date with any changes to this privacy policy by reviewing the policy every now and then here on our Website.

We will notify you if the policy has changed by revising the date at the top of this policy.

We are Sound Trails Pty Ltd. Our website address is: https://soundtrails.com.au
Please email us at support@soundtrails.com.au if you have any questions or concerns about your privacy.

Information about you that we receive

… through the Soundtrails Mobile App

  • When you are using the App we do not automatically collect any information about you.
  • The only information the App sends to our servers is a date stamp so it can retrieve any updates that have been made to Soundtrails stories, or if there are any new Soundtrails.
  • The date stamp is not stored on our servers.

… through Promotional Communications

If you receive email promotions, newsletters or any other promotional communications from us, you may ‘opt out’ and no longer receive these by following the directions given on those communications.

… when you email us

The only information you might directly give to us comes if you email us feedback, queries or comments. This information would include your email address and any other details you include in the email. If you interact with our social media site/s we may view any information your settings allow us to see.

… through the Website

When you access the Website we may collect information by cookies and other tracking technologies. These may be used for analytic and product improvement purposes, like seeing which pages on our Website are popular or determining whether email communications have been viewed.

… when you comment

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

… when you upload images

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

…through cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.

Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year.

If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Your web browser may have a default setting to accept cookies.

You can choose to set your browser to remove or reject cookies if you prefer. Note that removing or rejecting cookies may affect your access to Soundtrails.

… through embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

… when you request a password reset

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Analytics Service Providers collect data

If we ask other services to provide any analytic services for us, they may use cookies and a variety of technologies to collect information about how you use the App and Website and how you communicate with us, including but not limited to your web browser, pages viewed, links clicked, length of time spent on pages, and your IP address. This information may be used by us and others to ascertain the popularity of content, understand how people use the App and Website, and track data.

How your Information is used

We may use information about you to assist us to

  • Send you messages and notices related to the use of the App and Website;
  • Reply to any feedback or queries you send us;
  • Communicate news and information we think might interest you about the App and Website and related events and activities;
  • Track usage and trends related to the App and Website, and
  • Provide and maintain the best App and Website platforms we can, and look for ways we can improve them.

We are an Australian based organisation and so we must follow Australian law in relation to how we can use your information. In using our App and Website and communicating with us, you consent to your information being processed or disseminated in Australia and anywhere in the world.

How your Information is shared

Your information may be shared with others in these ways, and in ways otherwise set out in this Policy:

  • To ensure we are legally compliant with any jurisdictions we might be found in;
  • To safeguard the rights and property of Sound Trails Pty Ltd and ensure our safety and that of others;
  • With people or companies we consult with or who perform services on our behalf and who need access to such information to perform this work;
  • When you give your specific consent, including when we notify you via the App and/or Website that information you provide may be shared, and
  • In relation to us forming any business arrangements with other entities, including sale of our assets, merging, financing or selling all or part of our business.
  • We may also share non-identifiable information that is aggregated.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).

Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
